
Governor Ifeanyi Uguwanyi of Enugu State represented by his deputy, Her Excellency, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, made the assertion in an audience with the Executives of Motir-Dusable Energy Investment Company Washington D.C. America who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Enugu.
Governor Ugwuanyi observed that as solar power systems generate electricity with no associated health hazards, no water to operate, pollute or strain sources of water, government may think about an alternative option to constant electricity power outage to carry on with her services, activities in order to boost other economic sectors that depends primarily on energy to achieve its goals.
He noted that the visit is timely, especially now that his administration was poised to revamp some of its ailing industries; firms to attract investors to the state despite the present economic crunch in the country.
The governor told his visitors that harnessing the Sun’s/ energy is within the grasp and agenda of his administration considering that solar system is more labour intensive when compared with electricity from renewable energy and would create employment opportunity to the teeming youths and job seekers in the state.
He commended the visitors for their proposal, especially the age long relationship and assistance between Enugu State Government and the Government of United State of America.
Earlier, the Chairman, Motir Dusable Energy Investment Company, Washington D.C. America and the leader of the team, Engineer Emmanuel Irono, said that they were in Enugu to intimate and partner with the state government on their committed intention and desire to invest about One Million Dollars in Nigeria through their phased development power projects beginning with 100 Mega Watts Solar plant in Udi local government council of the state.
Engr. Irono who described his team as experienced, technically rooted experts and local knowledge relationships, said Enugu State was chosen for the project following the stability of the state government’s programmes and policies in the areas of condusive environment for investors, companies and organizations.
He solicited the assistance and cooperation of the state government to enable them to partner and invest in the state, adding that with the solar power project, the state will not only boast as the heart of investment in the South East states but in the country in general.
He thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for his development strides put in place to better the living standard of the people.
In a remark, one of the members of the team and the former INEC Chairman, Professor Humphrey Nwosu said that the plant when established would offer employment to about 2,000 job seekers and youths and described the plant as clean energy that is dependable.
