Tinubu’s, Akande’s visit to Buhari unconnected with Obasanjo’s statement

President Buhari with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande in State House on 23rd Jan 2018

All Progressives Congress, APC, national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has clarified that his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari with former national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande was not prompted by the scathing statement of former President Olusegun Obasanjo asking President Buhari not to re-contest the presidential position in 2019.

A statement by Tunde Rahman, head of the Tinubu Media Office, said that the visit was scheduled last week and was part of the regular consultative meetings the President holds with leaders of the APC and of the country.

Full text of the statement reads:

Today’s visit by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande to the Presidential Villa was scheduled last week.

President Buhari periodically schedules talks with Asiwaju Tinubu and Baba Akande, as he does with other Nigerians and APC figures, to discuss substantive issues pertaining to the governance of the country and matters concerning the party.

This visit was one such meeting. As such, the meeting had nothing to do with the statement of former President Obasanjo.

It is totally unconnected. At the time of the meeting, Asiwaju Tinubu and Baba Akande were even unaware that President Obasanjo had released his statement.
