

The ten-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Election Observation Mission (CEOM) to Guyana, which is monitoring today (September 1, 2025)’s General and Regional Elections will address a media conference tomorrow, Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 2:00pm AST at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.
Mounted by the CARICOM Secretariat at the invitation of Guyanese authorities, the CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM) comprises electoral officials from eight CARICOM Member States and has, as the Chief of Mission, Josephine Tamai, the Chief Elections Officer of Belize.
They arrived the country on August 26, 2025 and will depart on September 3, 2025, after having observed the electoral processes for the General and Regional Elections, including preparations for the start of the poll, casting of votes, closure of the polling stations, counting of the ballots, preparation of the statement of polls and the tabulation of results.
Between when it arrived Guyana and election day – Monday, September 1, 2025, the CEOM held meetings with key stakeholders and other local and international observer groups, and it is expected at Tuesday’s media conference, to release a preliminary report of its findings.
A statement from the CARICOM Secretariat said further that “qualitative and quantitative information regarding the voting process and the results will be collected to facilitate the preparation of an Independent Final Report on the General and Regional Elections to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.”
Incumbent President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who is contesting for a second term in office, is slugging it out with some opposition political figures, including legislator, Aubrey Norton.
