U-20 World Cup: Nigeria to face South Korea in quarter-final

Nigeria will face South Korea in the quarter-final of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup ongoing in Argentina.

To reach the quarterfinal, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria defeated tournament hosts Argentina by two unreplied goals in the round of 16 on Wednesday May 31.

Goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Haliru Sarki for Nigeria in the second half left Argentina stunned and out of the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

South Korea on their part battled to a 2-3 victory over Ecuador on Thursday night.

Lee Young-Jun and Bae Jon-Ho shot the Asians 2-0 up inside the opening twenty minutes before Cuerto scored from the spot to halve the deficit just before the halftime break.

Two minutes into the second half, Seok-Hyun Choi extended South Korea’s lead to 3-1 and so when Gonzalez Baquero scored in the 84th minute for Ecuador, it was no more than a consolation as South Korea held on for a 2-3 win.

The quarter-final clash between Nigeria and Ecuador will take place on Sunday June 4, 2023. The winner of that match will face either Colombia or Italy in the Semi-final.

Other quarter-final fixtures of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup will see Isreal face Brazil while USA and Uruguay face-off in the other last-8 clash.
