The Abia Government says arrangements have been concluded to host the 44th National Council Meeting of Civil Service Commissions of the Federation from Nov. 30 to Dec. 5 in Umuahia.
The Chairman of the Abia Civil Service Commission, Dr Eno Jerry-Eze, stated this on Friday during a press briefing, in Umuahia.
Jerry-Eze added that all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory would attend the meeting that would be held in the state.
She described Abia’s selection to host the meeting as a national endorsement of the state’s reforms under Gov. Alex Otti.
Jerry-Eze said that the present administration had repositioned the state through institutional renewal, modernisation projects and people-focused governance.
Jerry-Eze said that the meeting would give the state increased visibility and provide a platform for it to showcase its transformation journey, which includes a civil-service model built on merit, professionalism, efficiency, and digital-driven personnel management.
She added that Abia was fully prepared for the meeting and that facilities, including the remodelled Dr Michael Okpara Auditorium, were ready to host delegates.
According to her, the State Civil Service Commission had strengthened performance management, and introduced capacity-building programmes for the Abia workforce.
She also said that the Commission had began an initiative to maximise the skills of workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
“Our goal is to build a modern, motivated and high-performing workforce.
“We are driving merit-based recruitment, digitalisation of processes and the full deployment of the Human Resource Management Information System,”she said.
Jerry-Eze said that the Abia Leadership Academy and the TECHRise Initiative of the government was helping the state groom young leaders and technology talents for strategic roles in government.
She said that the key achievements of the Commission, include a new modern office complex, improved synergy with the Office of the Head of Service, and the recruitment of 771 healthcare workers through a merit-based process.
Jerry-Eze said that other achievements include enhanced documentation, publication of Annual Returns, digitalisation of administrative systems, timely disciplinary actions and improved career-progression structures.
She also commended Otti for recent gains in the sector, noting that Abia was ranked the most prepared state for health emergencies in the 2025 SBM Health Preparedness Index.
Jerry-Eze assured that the state would continue to modernise its civil service in line with the vision of the New Abia Agenda of the Otti-led administration.
