Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the Accountant General of the State to pay Pensioners their three months arrears owed them by former governor Chibuike Amaechi.
The governor, who gave the directive on Friday, said it was callous and insensitive to owe pensioners who have served the state creditably. It will be recalled that pensioners in the state were owed for months by Amaechi.
All entreaties from the senior citizens to get Amaechi pay them fell on deaf ears. Some of the pensioners even died in penury and out of frustration.
The Governor has promised to ensure regular payment of their pensions.
Governor Wike had a week ago, cleared the two months’ salary arrears owed Civil Servants in the state.
