The management of the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, has suspended two lecturers, Prof Andrew Efemini of the Department of Philosophy and Mrs. Ekenta Odokuma of the Department of Computer Sciences.
The University authorities said both lecturers were suspended based on misconducts. Prof Efemini was sanctioned for allegedly inciting students against the official policies of the Senate of the institution, while Mrs. Odokuma was suspended for holding more than one full time paid job at the University and at the Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Rumuola.
In a statement signed by the Registrar of the University,Mrs. Dorcas Otto and dated August 28, 2017, the institution accused Prof Efemini of ‘inciting students of the University of Port Harcourt against approved policies of the Senate of the University with intent to breach the peace and smooth running of the University of Port Harcourt, an act prejudicial to the interest of the University.’
The release warned Prof Efemini to stay away from his office during the interdiction period just as the letter insisted that the University would reserve the right to add to the allegations against Prof Efemini as it may deem fit.
Mrs. Odokuma has since been placed on half salary and ordered to stay away from her office.
The Registrar added that both lecturers shall remain suspended, pending the full investigation of the allegations against them by a Committee of the Governing Council.
The University’s letter further added that the actions against the two staff were in line with section [4],030402 [q] of the public service Rules.
