Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has approved the suspension of approval for extension of service for all categories of civil servants, especially those in the Directors and Permanent Secretaries cadres.
A statement by Chief Cosmas Iwu, Secretary to the Government of Imo State, said that the action was “in response to the concerns of the organised Labour and the need to ensure seamless career progression for civil servants.
“Consequently, all those who are due for retirements should follow the extant laws to ensure that they exit the service on the date of retirement.
“His Excellency has further directed that any civil servant who out of negligence or direct affront to the new directive, refuses to leave service when due for retirement would be made to refund monies paid to him/her within the period of overstay.
“Please be guided accordingly.”
This is as the Governor, on Thursday, approved the appointment of Chairman and members of the Committee on merger of Imo State Polytechnic campuses.
The governor had earlier signed a bill into law to merge the campuses of the Polytechnic so that the institution would start operating a single campus structure.
The members of the merger committee are:
Rev. Fr. Wencelaus Madu (Chairman)
Mrs. Esther Ukachukwu (Secretary)
Prof. (Mrs.) Edna Matthews Njoku (Member)
Barr. Sydney Emeka Agbor (Member) and
Mr. Charles Ekebor (Member).
The appointments, a statement by Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor, said, is with immediate effect.
