Five electricity transmission towers have collapsed in Akwa Ibom State after vandals removed key parts of the structures, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said.
The affected towers are located along the Ikot Abasi-Eket 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line.
TCN said the damage was discovered on August 9, 2026, during a routine patrol of the line by its workers.
The company said important support members were removed from Towers N9, J4, N10, N11 and N12, leading to their collapse.
Further checks also showed that parts had been removed and stolen from seven other towers along the same route.
The affected towers are J3, N8, N13, N14, N15, N18 and N19. TCN warned that the towers had been weakened and could also collapse.
The company said it had changed the network to reduce the impact on electricity supply, giving priority to the Ekim Transmission Station. Ibom Power is currently the only station without supply.
TCN said it was carrying out urgent work to rebuild the damaged parts of the transmission line and restore normal electricity supply.
Security agencies have also been informed to investigate the incident and prevent further vandalism along the route.
TCN condemned the act and called on security agencies and other stakeholders to remain alert and help protect important electricity infrastructure.
