Nigeria’s Wellington Jighere has won the 9th edition of Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics on Saturday with a game to spare.
The 2015 WESPA world champion beat the most successful world scrabble champion Nigel Richards in the last game played on Saturday evening at the VIP Lounge of Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo to claim the masters’ category trophy.
Wellington Jighere won 22 games out of the 27 games he played, he amassed enough points to be crowned the champion of the Godswill Akpabio International Classics for the 2nd time in 9 editions despite having a game to spare.
Wellington Jighere has won the two WESPA rated Classics competitions in Nigeria in 2017, having won the inaugural edition of the Wellington Scrabble Classics earlier this month in Lagos before adding the Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics.
As the winner of the masters’ category of Godswill Akpabio International Scrabble Classics, Wellington Jighere will cart away with the sum of ₦4,000,000.
The competition continues as the players fight for the consolation prizes.
