When Lagos stood still in celebration of Prince Adelana Adesida’s 70th birthday in grand style

For Akure, Ondo State-born Prince Adelana Adesida, it was day of indescribable joy, when family, friends and well-wishers from all over the world came together on Thursday, June 16, 2022 to celebrate his 70th birthday in grand style in Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria.

The event, which took the Lagos social scene by storm was held at the Island Club, Onikan, Lagos and had the Who-is-Who in attendance, including Royal Fathers, Captains of Industry, Media and Entertainment icons, Clerics and very importantly, past and present leaders, Elders, and members of the prestigious Island Club of Lagos.

Prince Adesida is a former Vice Chairman and a highly valued member of the 79-year-old Club, one of the oldest and most reputable multinational Clubs in Nigeria.

The roll call of dignitaries who graced the glorious Platinum Birthday Anniversary celebration of the highly respected Akure Prince include Chief Ade Ojo, the Group Chairman of Elizade Motors and Founder of Elizade University, Ilara- Mokin, Ondo State, who was Chairman of the event, the new Chairman of Island Club, Prince Asiwaju  Rabiu Adio Oluwa and members of his Executive Committee, members of the Board of Trustees and Elders of the Club, including Chief Olu Falamo, Chief Lai Amoje and Chief Femi Adeniyi-Williams, as well as past Chairmen of the Club like Chief Demola Dada, Mr. Banji Oladapo and  Chief Kehinde Shita.

Also in attendance at the high society event were His Royal Majesty Oba Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa of Ikorodu and his Olori, as well as the Iya Olu Duro Emiko, the mother of the Olu of Warri, Delta State, Chief (Mrs.) Shaw, who is the senior sister of the wife of Prince Adelana, Mrs. Funmilayo Adesida.

Evergreen music icon, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, MFR, a Professor of Music, an Evangelist, and the Grand Commander of Music in Nigeria (conferred on him by City People magazine), was in control of the band stand, dishing out his much-loved songs to the admiration and dancing pleasure of all who were part of the celebration.

Celebrity Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of City People, Nigeria’s trendsetting society magazine, Seye Kehinde, was also part of the glamorous celebration of Prince Adesida. Equally on ground, doing what he does best, was ace broadcaster and much sought-after compere, Prince Bisi Olatilo, the Chairman/CEO of Biscon Communications and anchor of Bisi Olatilo Show, who compered the programme, as expected, excellently.

Star comedian, Kofi Idowu Noel, aka Kofi the Guru, held guests spell-bound with his rib cracking jokes, as part of the unforgettable event which kicked off with a Praise and Worship session by the choir of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Jubilee Parish, Aja, Lagos and prayers and word ministration by Pastor Segun Macaulay.

Prince Adesida’s wife and two of their four children flew in from the United States of America (USA) to grace the celebration of the US-trained Engineer’s Platinum Anniversary celebration, which had a huge crowd of well-wishers thronging the venue of the big event.

For the celebrant, Omo Oba, Prince Adelana Adesida, for members of his nuclear and extended family, for leaders and members of the Island Club, as well as for his other relatives, friends and well-wishers, Thursday, June 16, 2022 will remain a very fond milestone in their memories, for the joy that was shared by all who were physically present as well as for those who keyed into the event in one way or the other from all across the world.

The best part, however, is the assurance that there will be many more of such glorious celebrations for Prince Adesida and his household, going forward.
