The Chief Whip of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Mr. Musa Buba, has explained why the 16 out of the 24 member House impeached Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim Sadiq and replaced him with Mr. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, Akko Central Constituency.

Our Correspondent gathered that before the impeachment, a member and diehard supporter of the former Speaker, having gotten a wind of the plot, mobilized some thugs who invaded the House, but they were later overpowered by heavily armed Policemen who brought sanity to the House.

However, the Clerk of the House was nowhere to be found during the fracas but the 16 members sat before the House Mace, Sargent at arms and other staff of the Assembly.

During the sitting, the 16 members out of the 24 members who appended their signatures for the vote of no confidence, later impeached Mr Abubakar Ibrahim Sadiq through a motion raised by Mr. Shuaibu Haruna, Kwami East and seconded by Musa Buba, Balanga North.

Soon after the impeachment, the House unanimously chose Mr. Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo as replacement and he was sworn-in by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Siddi Buba.

The House also during sitting replaced the Majority leader, Mr. Samuel Markus, Pero Chonge constituency. The Deputy Chief Whip, Mr. Yahaya Mohammed Kaka was also replaced with Saidu Mohammed, Deba Constituency.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the sitting, the Chief Whip of the House, Mr. Musa Buba said they had to effect the changes in the House leadership because of the little trust the members had developed towards the Abubakar Ibrahim Sadiq led House.

After much insistence by pressmen over the reason for the impeachment, Mr. Musa Buba said, “He lacked the trust of the Honourable members and a number of times, he had gone contrary to the provisions of our guiding principles, that is, the standing order of the House”.

He added that ” The Constitution says once you lack confidence in the Speaker, you can impeach him. Majority of the House members expressed their constitutional responsibility under section 92 subsection 2. There is no sponsorship, we are responsible members elected by our people.

“We have good relationship with the Executive as lawmakers. It’s just an internal issue and we love and respect our Governor”, the Chief Whip stressed.

Speaking shortly after, the new Speaker, Mr. Luggerewo, thanked members for diligently discharging their constitutional responsibility after passing a vote of no confidence on the former Speaker.

He said, the action taken was in the best interest of their constituents and Gombe State at large, adding that, ” We took this action purposely to ensure that all what Gombe State citizens need in terms of legislation is being delivered”.
