A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Diran Odeyemi, has declared that the party will not die, saying it has “nine lives” and will continue to survive.
Speaking in an interview on TVC News, Odeyemi said the PDP draws its strength from the grassroots rather than directives from the national leadership.
“The PDP has always been a party built on the participation of grassroots members. While the national leadership coordinates, real decisions come from the local chapters. That is what gives the party its resilience and legitimacy,” he said.
Odeyemi cautioned against attempts to centralise control of party congresses, warning that such actions could harm internal democracy and alienate members.
He dismissed fears that disputes at the top would weaken the party, pointing to peaceful congresses in states like Ondo and Adamawa as proof that the PDP remains strong at the local level.
“No matter the crisis at the top, politics is local. As long as grassroots members are satisfied with their leaders, the PDP will remain solid,” he added.
Odeyemi expressed confidence that the party would overcome its current challenges. He predicted that the upcoming national convention would mark a new beginning.
“PDP has nine lives; it cannot die. By December, when the present leadership leaves, grassroots leaders who understand peace will take charge, and Nigerians will see the PDP rise again,” he said.
