Wike splashes $20,000 on each member of Rivers United NPFL title winning squad

Members of the Rivers United FC 2021/2022 NPFL title winning team will smile to the bank with $20,000 courtesy of the Rivers State Government.

Governor Nyesom Wike made the pronouncement today Wednesday July 21, 2022 while receiving the team in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Members of the Rivers United team also received a Governor’s Medal Service Award, a two-weeks pre-season training tour in Madrid, Spain ahead of the CAF Champions League campaign plus a $40,000 cash reward promise if they qualify from the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The excited Governor Nyesom Wike hailed the players, management and technical crew for the excellent performance during the just concluded NPFL season and urged them to be worthy representatives of the country when the CAF Champions League campaign begins.

Rivers United who were runners up in the 2020/2021 season won by Akwa United were crowned Champions of the 2021/2022 season after gathering 77 points from 38 matches to clearly edge closest challengers Plateau United out.

Rivers United and Plateau United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League while Remo Stars picked a CAF Confederation Cup ticket at the end of the 2021/2022 NPFL season.
