Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu becomes Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General

His unanimous choice to complete the term of office of the President General of the apex Igbo organization which is zoned to Imo State followed the deaths while in office of the two previous occupants of the coveted position, Professor George Obiozor and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who were both from Imo State.
The decision to swear in Nze Chukwu was reached at the Imeobi/General Assembly of the apex Igbo organisation held today, Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the National Secretariat of the body in Enugu, according to a statement by Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Secretary-General and Dr Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, National Publicity Secretary of the body.
Nze Chukwu’s nomination to complete the tenure of Imo State, by Barrister C.J Ihemedu, President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Imo State, and HRM Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, the Chairman, Council of Elders, Imo State, was seconded by Chief Simon Okeke (Ochendo), amongst others, and was, thereafter, unanimously adopted through a voice vote by the Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
His nomination was subsequently presented to General Assembly and the State Presidents of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Rivers States, expressed their delight at development which will see the elder statesman serving as the President-General of the body until January 10, 2025 when a new leader from Rivers State is expected to take over to serve the turn of the Rivers State.
Nze Chukwu was sworn-in by the National Legal Adviser, Barrister Joseph Obinamma Ojobu and the Assistant Legal Adviser Dr. Peter Aneke, and with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the organisation, he will immediately begin his tenure with the composition of the Electoral and Screening Committees for the forthcoming Ohanaeze election by Sunday December 15, 2024.
The Imeobi was, according to the statement, attended by notable Igbo leaders.
