Super Eagles B hold first training session in Uyo as Akwa Ibom State FA welcomes team

The Super Eagles B team held their first training session in Uyo on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, as preparations intensify for the crucial second leg of their African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualification clash against the Black Galaxies of Ghana.

The team arrived in Uyo on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, following a hard-fought goalless draw in the first leg played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 22. With the return leg scheduled for Saturday, December 28, 2024, by 5 pm at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Super Eagles B are determined to make the most of their home advantage.

Welcoming the team to Uyo, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr. Samuel Umoh, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting the squad. “We are delighted to host the Super Eagles B team and provide them with top-notch facilities for their preparations. This match is of immense importance, and we are confident the team will rise to the occasion and secure Nigeria’s place in the CHAN tournament,” he said.

The CHAN tournament, set to be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda from February 1 to 28, 2025, is a highly coveted competition for African players based in domestic leagues.

The Akwa Ibom State FA has urged football fans across the state and nation to come out in large numbers to cheer the team to victory. “This is not just a game; it is an opportunity to showcase the resilience and talent of Nigerian football. We call on everyone to fill the stands and be the 12th player for the Super Eagles B,” Mr. Umoh added.

The Super Eagles B team’s first training session was held behind closed doors, with head coach Daniel Ogunmodede putting the players through tactical drills and set-piece strategies. The players expressed their readiness to deliver a performance worthy of Nigeria’s football pedigree.

With just a few days to the decisive clash, anticipation is building, and the team is leaving no stone unturned in their quest to secure a spot in the prestigious CHAN tournament.
