Lamine Yamal inspired Spain to a commanding 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in Atlanta, scoring and playing a key role in a dominant performance that strengthened their World Cup campaign.
The 18-year-old, making his first start after limited involvement in Spain’s opening draw with Cape Verde, immediately became the focus of attention. Returning from a hamstring injury suffered in April, Yamal was heavily backed by fans inside the stadium, with thousands wearing his name and roaring every touch.
Spain made a fast start and quickly took control, playing with greater intensity and purpose than in their previous match. Yamal was central to their attacking rhythm, constantly drifting into space and troubling the Saudi defence.
The breakthrough came midway through the first half when a low cross flashed across the face of goal, and Yamal arrived at the back post to finish calmly for his first World Cup goal. The strike sent the Atlanta crowd into celebration and gave Spain full control of the game.
From then on, Spain dominated possession and territory, moving the ball quickly and stretching Saudi Arabia’s backline. The opposition struggled to cope with Spain’s pace, movement and confidence in the final third.
Yamal continued to influence the game, creating chances and linking play as Spain pressed for more goals. Saudi Arabia offered little going forward and were repeatedly pinned back by sustained Spanish pressure.
Spain added to their lead with two more goals before the break and continued to control proceedings in the second half, rounding off a comfortable 4-0 win.
The teenager’s display drew further praise, with observers highlighting his maturity and fearlessness at the highest level, despite his age and recent injury setback.
The result strengthens Spain’s position in the group, while Yamal once again confirmed his growing status as one of the standout young talents at the tournament.
