Youths destroy Mortuary for alleged body parts harvesting

Youths from Ndiolumbe community have destroyed one “Prince O Mortuary” at Ndiolumbe, Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia, on Monday over alleged harvest of dead people’s body parts.
An eyewitness who refused to be named said the youths burnt ambulances and destroyed the mortuary with the corpses thrown out of the morgue and left at the premises.
The source told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Ndiolumbe community had been accusing the mortuary owner and attendants of harvesting dead people’s body parts and selling them to ritualists.
The source, however, said that recent incidences that followed the initial accusation against the mortuary appeared to confirm what the villagers were suspecting.
NAN learnt that the destruction of the mortuary led persons whose relations were kept at “Prince O Mortuary” to go and carry the corpses of their loved ones to another mortuary in the area.
A mortuary owner in the area who pleaded anonymity said that over 50 corpses from the demolished Mortuary had been deposited at his mortuary by the relatives of the dead people.
“The mortuary has always been accused of harvesting dead people’s body parts and selling them to ritualists.
“There have been too many stories about “Prince O Mortuary,” so the youths of Ndiolumbe community decided to destroy the mortuary and burn the ambulances.
“It is a sordid sight as corpses were scattered everywhere,” he said.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, said although such a thing might be trending on social media, it had not been reported to the police in the area.
