A world-wide association of old students of the Abia State University, Uturu, Nigeria, known as Zenith Environmental and Social Protection Network (ZESPRONET), has donated laptop computers worth over N8.5 million Naira for the use of students and staff of the Imo State University, Owerri.

This was made known in a statement to GPNEWS by the United States of America (USA)-based International President of ZESPRONET, Boris Emeka Oji MD/Ph.D, who said that the donation of the 20 units of laptops was in fulfilment of a promise made to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Uche Chukwumaeze SAN last year.

Dr. Boris Oji, a practicing physician, said that following the group’s annual general meeting in Abuja in 2022, ZESPRONET had promised Prof Chukwumaeze SAN that it will be a partner in progress with Imo State University.

ZESPRONET, on Friday, October 20, 2023, made good its promise with the delivery of the laptops with a promise to continue with the partnership to encourage other individuals and groups to see the need to support public education in the country.

Dr. Oji stressed that ZESPRONET’s mantra has always been that a country is as good as its public education system, noting that all hands must be on deck to improve the public education system in Nigeria.

He also said that the group is proud to have embarked on the venture and grateful to the University’s administration for allowing them the opportunity to partner with the institution.

He noted that ZESPRONET, besides the recent delivery of the laptops, has been sponsoring the best graduating female medical student of Imo State University for the past four years.

Dr. Oji stressed that Professor Chukwumaeze SAN is a progressive minded administrator and thanked the legal luminary and his administration for partnering with them to positively impact the students and faculty of the University through the donation of the laptops.

The International President used the opportunity to express gratitude to members of ZESPRONET and their friends and associates who made financial contributions towards making the project a success and hoped that the staff and students of the University will benefit from use of the laptops.

The management of the University, in a show of appreciation to ZESPRONET for its gesture, caused a plaque to be mounted in honour of all those who donated towards the actualization of the project.

Members of ZESPRONET have also been giving back to their alma mater, Abia State University, Uturu, Nigeria. They have, for instance, not too long ago completed and donated an N80 million ultra-modern Post Graduate hostel to the frontline university, are planting trees to beautify and protect the university, and have donated books and journals to enhance research and scholarship in the institution.
