130 graduates bag first class as OAU holds 46th convocation – VC

130 students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, would be graduating with first-class honours as the institution holds its 46th convocation ceremony this week.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Simeon Bamire, made this known while addressing Journalists at the University’s Secretariat Building, on Monday.

Bamire emphasised that the school has placed a high priority on welfare, success and progress of its students.

According to him, out of 5,852 graduands, 130 bagged first class, while 1,323 made 2nd class (Honours, Upper Division).

He said that in the 2nd class (Honours, Lower Division), there are 1,991 graduands, while 636 bagged 3rd class (Honours).

According to him, 34 graduands are in the pass category, so all together, there are 4,114 graduands in the Bachelor’s degree classified category.

“The Bachelor’s degree, unclassified, 7 graduands have Pass Honours, while 28 graduands have Pass with Distinction, 444 graduands made it under Pass with Credit and another 486 graduands are with Pass.

“Altogether, they have 965 graduands under Bachelor’s degree, unclassified category.

“For the Postgraduate graduands, the institution has 17 persons with Postgraduate Diploma, 403 graduands with Professional Masters and 200 with Masters with Research Thesis,” the Vice-Chancellor noted.

He explained that 20 graduands are under Master of Philosophy; 61 graduands under Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), altogether 712 graduands are in this category.

Bamire stated further that non-degree Diplomas in the Faculty of Administration, Faculty of Arts and Education, produced two graduands with Distinction, 25 with upper credit and another 34 with lower credit.

He acknowledged the efforts of all the Principal Officers, Provosts, Chairman, Committee of Deans, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department and Units and students for their full support to record this great success.

Also, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Charles Ukeje, said the programme commences on Wednesday, December 7 and ends on Saturday, December 10,2022.

Ukeje explained that on Wednesday, there’ll be Conferment of Bachelors Degrees and Award of Prizes for the Faculty of Local Government and Development Studies.

According to him, on Thursday, there will be Conferment of Bachelors Degrees and Award of Prizes, for the Faculty Administration; Arts; Education; Law and Social Sciences with a Convocation Play.

On Friday, there will be Conferment of Bachelors Degrees and Award of Prizes for Faculties of: Agric, Environmental Design and Management (EDM), Pharmacy, Science, Technology, College of Health Science, while Saturday, would witness the grand finale of the epochal event with Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni, the Former High Commissioner of Nigeria to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea delivering the Convocation Lecture.
