At least 18 persons have been confirmed dead following an auto crash that occurred, Wednesday, along the busy Mbiama East/ West Road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The accident involving an 18-seater commuter bus travelling from Port Harcourt to Bayelsa State and a truck from the Mbiama axis of the same road, caused a traffic gridlock on the road as motorists and commuters alike joined in the and evacuation of victims off the road.
Eyewitnesses claimed both drivers were involved in a head-on collision.
There were no reported survivors in the ill-fated bus including the driver and his unidentified conductor.
Sources said the accident took place in Odhilogbo community in Ahonda West local government Area early Wednesday morning.
Mr Joseph Aka, a commercial driver plying Port Harcourt / Yenagoa route blamed the accident on over speeding and recklessness on the part of both drivers, as he recounted scenes of blood and human parts littering the road at the point of collision.
As at press time, corpses still lay at various points on the road awaiting transportation to a mortuary as emergency agencies were yet to arrive the scene.
