Former Secretary of Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Patrick Umoh has declared that he is in politics to develop his people.
Umoh, who was reacting to the saying, “politics is a dirty game” on a Media Chat organized by the Akwa Ibom APC Media and Publicity Committee on Friday, dispelled the notion stating that, “politics is not a dirty game,” insisting that it has rules.
He said, it would be exciting if anyone who is in politics plays by the rules.
“A private individual may not be able to construct roads for the people but, being actively involved in politics and governance, he will be able to draw government’s attention to the needs of his people and influence policies that spark development in his area.
“So, I am in politics today for the development of my people,” he stressed.
He further stated that, he is not a neophyte in Obot Akara politics, noting that he had served the area in various capacities, including as a one-time students’ leader during his undergraduate days, as well as the longest serving Council Secretary from 2012-2015. He was also later reappointed into the Transition Committee of the Local Government Area.
He said, consequent upon these, he is well versed in the dynamics of political and developmental tussles in the Ikot-Ekpene/Obot Akara/Essien Udium Federal Constituency pointing out, however, that he appreciated the people for the confidence, trust, love and support given to him and other candidates of APC in the just concluded party primaries to represent them in different capacities in the coming political dispensation at State and National levels.
He urged the people of the area to go out and register for their Personal Voters Cards, PVCs, to partake in the forthcoming general elections to elect good leaders whose interest is the development of the people.
