The Sokoto State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has commenced the distribution of 131,706 unclaimed permanent voters cards, PVCs, which were not collected by registered voters during the 2015 general elections.
Disclosing this, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Commission in the state Muhammad Musa said out of the 23 local government areas of the state, Sokoto South local government has the highest figure of 28,000 unclaimed PVCs.
He said Sokoto North local government area also has unclaimed 16,000 voters card while INEC records show that there are 12,000 unclaimed voters card in Wamakko local government area of the state.
According to the PRO, the distribution of the PVCs was ongoing in all the local government INEC offices of the state.
Musa said the Commission would soon embark on fresh voters registration exercise to register those who are 18 years and above or those who could not register and have their data captured during the last registration.
He further said the Commission has held a retreat for strategic planning towards the success of the 2019 election.
In 2019, he added, INEC would collate and transmit results of elections electronically from polling units to wards, local governments and states to enhance credibility of election results as well as reduce cases in courts.
