A grassroots politician, one time commissioner and council chairman of Sabon Birni local government, Hon Idris Mohammad Gobir emerged the running mate to Sokoto All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Hon Ahmad Aliyu after extensive consultations with major political stakeholders in the state.

Addressing newsmen at the party Secretariat, the state APC chairman, Hon Isa Sadiq Achida said the choice of Gobir, a 47-year-old holder of five Masters’ Degrees in various disciplines of human management and development, including Computer Software management and International Affairs and Diplomacy, was the result of consensus among the key stakeholders of the state, especially leaders of the party.

Dan Chadi, as Gobir is fondly called, was at the time of his choice, pursuing his Doctorate Degree at the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna.

Said Achida, “after due consultations and deliberations between the Sokoto State APC Governorship Candidate for the 2023 General Elections, other relevant party stakeholders and interest groups, we have come to the conclusion that our unanimous choice for the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our great party, the APC in Sokoto state is none other than Honourable Idris Muhammad Gobir, affectionately called ‘Dan Chadi’ by his admirers.”

Continuing, the state party chairman added, “Our Deputy Governorship candidate is an accomplished administrator that began his service career as a school teacher in Sabon Birni local government, a one-time Sokoto state commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning before venturing into other public service sectors such as the Maritime and Petroleum industries, where he served with the Nigerian Port Authority and Department of Petroleum Resources”.

A highly regarded and widely loved pro-people politician, Gobir comes from the Sokoto East Senatorial District.  He thanked the State APC, the governorship candidate and the other stakeholders for finding him worthy of such trust and promised not to let them down, assuring that he will remain committed to having a good working relationship with his principal, the governorship candidate.

Hon. Gobir, who admitted that he is a humble individual that has the development of the state at heart, stressed that the state will be better off voting APC come 2023, as elected officials of the party have delivered diverse human developmental projects in their respective ways and are ever ready to do more for the good of the people of the state.
