Some of them are said to have reported at the ministries assigned to them right after the inaugural meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC.
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi, resumed work at the ministry’s headquarters, in Abuja shortly after the inaugural FEC meeting Wednesday.
Fayemi who was received by top officials of the ministry, held a meeting with them afterwards.
In attendance at the meeting were the Minister of State for Solid Minerals, Abubakar Bwari, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry and some directors.
Fayemi, a former Governor of Ekiti State, told them of government’s plan to re-position the ministry as a major contributor to the economic growth of the country, adding that no stone would be left unturned in the bid to achieve the set goals.
Former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, was also said to have visited the three ministries – Power, Works and Housing – that he has been assigned to supervise, though details of the visits were not available at the time of posting this report.
Many of the other ministers have also taken steps to show that it would not be business as usual in their ministries, especially with the sacking of some permanent secretaries, appointment of 18 new ones, reassignment of some others, scrapping of some ministries and merging of others.
Nigerians, some of who started getting impatient when the appointment of ministers was getting delayed would want to see ministers accelerate the pace of governance and play leading roles in advancing the the President’s anti-corruption crusade, war against terror and drive towards reviving the economy.
Starting on the fast lane, for these ministers, is expected to be an indication of their resolve to be the change agents that Nigerians want.
