Five soldiers were killed, 7 others injured, while three civilians went missing when some members of the Boko Haram terrorist group laid ambushed on a military formation in Kamuya village of Biu Local government area of Borno state, about seven kilometers away from Buratai, the home town of Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai.
A vigilante member from the area, Mallum Biukar, said the terrorists came at about 2:30 am on Thursday when some vigilante members from the town were moved to Buni Yadi for early morning operation to Boko Haram hideouts in the area.
He said “I think the terrorists had prior knowledge of the movement and the proposed operation by the troops and vigilante, hence the attack on the formation resulting in the death of five soldiers, while three civilians are missing.”
He said on Thursday morning the combined military and vigilante pursued the terrorists to their hideout with air support where several of the insurgents were killed, while some of them, sighted crossing the road between Mada village and Gashua were also killed.
It would be recalled that Kamuya and the adjoining villages are at the fringes of Alagar forest, one of the spiritual strongholds of Boko Haram insurgents, which has links with Sambiza forest.
