DENNIS UDOMA, Uyo
No fewer than 62 policemen in Akwa Ibom State were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase on Friday with a charge that they must see their promotion as a call to serve, not to bully the people.
Among those who benefitted from the IG’s gesture were Patience Okon, who at various times had represented Nigeria in international sporting tournaments and a senior traffic warden who was decorated as Assistant
Superintendent of Traffic.
Performing the decoration of the newly promoted officers in Uyo Friday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani tasked them to perform their duties with renewed vigour and zeal.
He advised them to do their best at all times to ensure that the confidence reposed in the police by Nigerians in securing the environment is fulfilled, restating that their promotion to the higher rank is not for them to bully people.
Mr. Mani however asked the officers to guard their promotions jealously and ensure that they reflect the good image of the police force at all times.
Mr. Ime Etim, who responded on behalf of the newly promoted officers thanked the IG for his magnanimity and promised they will justify their elevation by improving on the performance of their jobs to secure lives and property in Akwa Ibom state
According to him, “We are not going to disappoint Nigerians with our new ranks. We will make use of our new ranks to protect the interest of the Nigeria Police and Nigerians at large.”
