Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria celebrates at 60

The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, on behalf of the Council, Senate, Congregation, Management, Staff and Students of the University, has sent out an invitation to the public, to participate in activities marking the 60th Anniversary of the foremost institution.
The first generation institution of higher learning, formerly the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, in a statement by Margret I. Omosule, the Registrar, said that the Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of ‘Great Ife’ will commence on Sunday, June 6, 2021 and climax with the Convocation Ceremonies in December 2021.
According to the schedule of some of the activities lined up to commemorate the landmark Anniversary, there will be a Christian Interdenominational Service at the All Souls’ Chapel of the University on Sunday, June 6, 2021 and a World Press Conference on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 to herald the Commemorative programmes and unveil the 60th Anniversary Logo/Crest. There will also be a Diamond Jubilee Rally and Alumni Reminiscences same Tuesday, June 8, 2021.
On Wednesday, June 9, 2021, there will, among other events, be a Novelty Football March while on Friday, June 11, 2021 there will be a Jumat Service at the University’s central mosque.
Between July and December 2021, there will also be activities by the different College, Faculties and Units of the Institution, starting with the Institute of Cultural Studies’ Culture Week in July and climaxing with the honouring of 60 Distinguished Alumni /Friends of the University @ 60 and the Convocation Ceremonies in December 2021.
