The Nigeria Police, Sokoto command, has deployed over 3,000 men and officers in the state to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations across the state.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State command, has, similarly, deployed no fewer than 800 personnel to support other security agencies in ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free yuletide across the state.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr Kamaldeen Okunlola, gave the figures of deployments by the Police while addressing newsmen in his office in Sokoto on Friday.

He cautioned citizens to always remain law abiding and ensure prompt information of any suspicious activities in their areas to enable proper action by the security personnel.

“I want to use the medium to inform the good people of Sokoto State that this deployment will not affect the ongoing joint military operations in the troubled eastern zone of the state.

“The Inspector General of Police has deployed additional personnel to Sokoto under the Operation Puff Adar to fight banditry and ensure the peace of the Caliphate,” he said.

He called on Christians to stay out of trouble and feel free to celebrate the Christmas as a detachment of security personnel has been posted to churches and all other places of worship in the state.

In a statement in Sokoto on Thursday, signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSC Hamza Illela, the NSCDC state command said adequate arrangements to ensure the celebrations were peaceful had fully been put in place.

“The NSCDC Commandant, Mr Muhammad Dada, has directed the deployment of 800 personnel comprising of uniform and non uniform, as this will man all worship, resort centers and continue to watch all other activities to aid our collective desire of ensuring peace before, during and after the festive period across the state.

“As such, we appeal to the good people of Sokoto to continue to be law abiding and cooperate with security agencies by ensuring timely report of any suspicious activity around them for proactive measures,” he said.
