Kuku, in a chat with journalists in Akure, the state capital, also declared that the party was battle-ready to retain the governorship seat by winning the next general election in the state.
He said: “I want to tell you that Ondo State is a PDP state and will remain a PDP state, even after Mimiko has left. From the beginning, any time you see PDP losing an election in this state, it will be as a result of the unresolved crisis within the party.
“Look at what happened in the last general election, we lost the Presidential election in this state because we could not resolve our internal crisis, but when we were able to settle the matter and begged one another, then see the result of the House of Assembly election. This shows if there is no crisis, no party can defeat us. ”
On the governorship election coming up next year, Kuku said the position was likely to move to either the Northern or Southern Senatorial District because the incumbent Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko comes from Ondo in the Central Senatorial District, noting that it would be more appropriate if the next Governor should move to either of the two remaining Senatorial Districts.
” I am not saying our members from the Central Senatorial District are not constitutionally qualified to contest the election, but I think it would be much better if the governorship seat can move either to the North or South Senatorial District. You know our Governor is from the Central senatorial district” he explained.
While appealing to members of the party to continue working and supporting the leadership of the party ahead of next year’s election, the former Presidential Aide said as one of the leaders of the party he was ready to support any candidate picked for the election.
“My main concern is for us to win the election,” he stressed.
