Man docked over alleged malicious damage, as Court slams 3-hour community service on teenager

A 42-year-old man, Akintunde Akinlolu, was on Thursday docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged malicious damage.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 9, 2019 around 03:00 p.m. at Aderemi St., Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit the alleged offence.

He added that the defendant collected N18,000 from one Fabunmi Abayomi with intent to repair his plasma TV.

According to him, the defendant, however, maliciously damaged the plasma TV belonging to Abayomi, valued N80,000, by removing some important components from it.

The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened Sections: 419, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defense Counsel, Mr. Michael Babatunde, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until March 22, for mention.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Ayeni on Thursday slammed a three-hour community service sentence on an 18-year-old man, Olaya Peter, for contempt of court.

Peter had faced a one-count charge of contempt of court.

The Magistrate sentenced the defendant after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Ayeni held that the three hours community service would be done at the court premises and supervised by the officers of the correctional service centre.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 8, 2022 at the Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the convict did absent himself from court as an act of disrespect to court being an accused person standing trial in charge No. MIF/254C/2021 having known same to be an offence.

The Prosecutor said that the offence committed contravened section 133 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
