2023: Vice President Osinbajo declares position on presidency “in a matter of days” – Aso Villa source
It has been authoritatively confirmed that any time from today, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) will address the nation to declare his position on the presidential election of 2023.
Speculations have been rife that the Professor of Law turned politician will contest the presidency of the country on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but till date he has not categorically declared his intention.
However, an inside Aso Villa (presidency) source told our Correspondent on condition of anonymity that “the VP will be addressing the issue of 2023 Presidential elections in a matter of days.”
Pressed to be more specific as to the exact day or date that Prof. Osinbajo would address the burning issue, the source said that “things are still in a flux so I won’t say definitely the number of days (before the announcement), but this is no longer something that will go past a few days for sure.”
He said, “for instance, expectations were that this week, the party will announce the calendar but that has not happened,” stressing that any time from now the coast would be clear for the long-expected announcement.
The APC, which has zoned its presidential ticket to the south of the country just elected a new National leadership at its National Convention which was held at the Eagle Square, Abuja and the Senator Abdullahi Adamu led EXCO is expected to hit the ground running, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines do not allow the party much more time.
Professor Osinbajo’s anticipated declaration will mark his first official pronouncement on the contest for the party’s presidential ticket, though groups supporting his aspiration have been active, moving around the country, setting up political structures and mobilising support for his candidacy.
