The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) has hailed the choice of Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate to the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2023 presidential election.
The choice of Okowa was announced Thursday, June 16, 2022 at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
In its letter of congratulations to Okowa, endorsed by the Chairman of the Forum, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Governors commended Atiku for keeping to his promise “to select a serving PDP Governor as his running mate.”
They said that the party’s presidential candidate kept to his word “ostensibly not just because of the contributions of the Governors to the effective running of the Party and its stability, but because of their experience and executive capacity,” noting that Okowa has not only distinguished himself as Governor of Delta State but “also has cognate legislative experience as a former Senator.
“He has what it takes to be an effective Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement said, stressing that “the great task of recovering, rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria begins with the Atiku/Okowa ticket.”
The PDP Governors also said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government “has completely messed up Nigeria,” insisting that “it has failed in all aspects of governance,” having as its hallmarks, “insecurity, bad economy, dysfunctional education, health and social services.
“With the Atiku/Okowa ticket help is on the way. We shall overcome,” the statement concluded.
