The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in its 2022 Ember Months campaign has said it will set up mobile courts across the 36 states of the federation to try road traffic offenders instantly.

Speaking before flagging off the ember months campaign at the Kwanawa motor park, Sokoto, the acting Corps Marshal, DCM Dauda Biu appealed to road users not to gamble with their lives and those of their passengers.

Dauda, who was represented by the Zonal Commanding Officer Zone RS 10, Assistant Corps Marshal, Ramalan Yerima said the 2022 ember months campaign with the theme, “Avoid   Over Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres To Arrive Alive” was very apt.

Speaking on his part, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111 urged the FRSC to step up efforts aimed at arresting drivers who make calls while on the steering.

The Sultan, who was represented by the District Head of Durbawa, Muazu Yakubu Durbawa said, “‘the significance of the gathering will be of great impact to road users as it reminds all of us of the rules and regulations of road usage.

“The campaign will help in reducing road crashes on our highways. But the FRSC has to increase their presence by ensuring that those doing overloading, over speeding and violating traffic regulations don’t go unpunished to serve as deterrent to others,” he advised.

The Sultan also urged the FRSC to step up efforts aimed at halting mobile phone usage while driving.
