Senator Ovie Omo-Agege

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has congratulated the Bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Warri, Rev. Fr. Anthony Ewherido, on his appointment by His Holiness, Pope Francis.

In a personally signed congratulatory message, Senator Omo-Agege expressed profound delight over the appointment of Monsignor Ewherido.

The Delta APC Governorship candidate described the bishop as a “thoroughbred priest educated to the highest level in the finest traditions of the Catholic Church, an expert in Theology who rose to the rank of a Professor of Biblical Theology and Languages.”

The Bishop-elect, who hails from Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, is a constituent of the Delta Central lawmaker.

Until his appointment, Ewherido was the Rector of his alma mater, SS. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Ibadan.

Omo-Agege recalled the cleric’s past as an impactful teacher, devoted priest and administrator, noting that he had always been guided by hard work, godliness and passion for humanity.

The Deputy President of the Senate said further, “I congratulate the membership of Warri Diocese not only for the peaceful selection process that led to your emergence but also as the second indigenous Bishop of the Diocese.

“I am optimistic that your tenure will usher in peace in the area. It will also be an era of positive revolution in the vineyard to help save the world.

“I pray that the Almighty God will bless you with good health of mind and body so that you will continue to serve the Universal Church and the people according to God’s wishes. Congratulations Padre”.

Meanwhile, Senator Omo-Agege sent out a message of condolence to the immediate family, Warri Traditional Counci of Chiefs, the people of Warri Kingdom and the state’s judiciary over the unfortunate demise of a former Customary Court Judge, Chief Sunday Stephen Rone.

Aged 86, Chief Rone died on Monday, December 26, 2022.

Until the time of his passing, he was the Obazuaye of Warri Kingdom and the oldest serving Chief in Warri Kingdom, Delta State.

The Delta Central lawmaker noted that with the passing of Chief Rone, Delta State has lost a legal luminary who bestrode the heights of his chosen profession like a colossus and cast his shadow far beyond the confines of the state.

He prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and fortitude for the Rone family to bear the irreparable loss.

“As Customary Court Judge in the Warri Judiciary Council, the Late Chief Rone diligently served the state unblemished and with distinction.

“As a ranking member of the Warri Traditional Council of Chiefs, he served under four traditional rulers in Warri Kingdom, the last being HRH Ogiame Atunwase III.

“His legacy as a judge will be celebrated by present and future generations. A great man, he will be missed by all. May his soul find rest in the bosom of God Almighty,” he said.
