British Deputy High Commissioner holds reception to celebrate human rights defenders
…. 2023 is the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
On Thursday, October 5, 2023 the British Deputy High Commissioner, Gill Atkinson, held a reception to celebrate Nigeria’s human rights defenders.
Invited guests included members of the diplomatic community, civil society, legal professionals and Federal Government officials.
In her remarks the Deputy High Commissioner highlighted that 2023 is the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Speaking at the Human Rights Defenders reception, British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Atkinson said:
“Nigeria’s upcoming Universal Periodic Review is an opportunity to take stock of the human rights situation in the country, it is of great importance that civil society and international partners submit recommendations through this process. We continue to work closely together with the Nigerian Government to protect human rights in Nigeria.”
