Akwa Ibom State Governor announces plans for Elderly Citizens Centre

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has revealed plans for the construction of a dedicated centre for elderly citizens during his New Year statewide broadcast on January 1, 2024. The proposed centre is intended to include facilities such as a hospital, library, supermarkets, and other amenities to benefit the elderly population.

Governor Eno emphasized the importance of caring for the elderly while they are still alive, acknowledging their significant contributions to the state’s development. The planned centre aims to express gratitude for their past efforts.

“We have concluded plans to build a centre for the elderly citizens in our state. This centre will house a hospital, library, supermarkets and other facilities for the use of our elders.

“I believe that we should take care of our elders while they still live and appreciate them for their huge contributions towards the development of our state.

In addition to the elderly citizens’ center, the governor outlined plans for the construction of an international market in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

This market is expected to enhance economic activities in the state, reducing production costs for young entrepreneurs who often travel to purchase raw materials.

The governor expressed commitment to initiating work on this project within the first half of the year.

He said “We have also made plans to build an international market in Ikot Ekpene local government area. we believe that this market will boost the economic activities in our state and will reduce production cost for most of our young entrepreneurs who often have to travel out to buy their raw materials. We are committed to ensuring that work commences on this project within the first half of this year.”

Governor Eno also provided a summary of his seven-month tenure, spanning various sectors of the economy. He highlighted the directive for an operational audit of the Ibom Power Plant, aiming to reposition the critical plant for improved performance and greater benefits for the people of Akwa Ibom.

“We believe strongly that with adequate power, our entrepreneurs in the state can do better and our economy will be better for it,” Eno added.

Appreciating the support from the legislature and judiciary, Governor Eno encouraged continued collaboration to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
