Nigerian troops neutralize 43 terrorists; Arrest 115 in ongoing operations

The Defence Headquarters has reported that Nigerian troops have achieved significant successes in the ongoing campaigns against insurgents, neutralizing 43 terrorists and arresting 115 others in various operations over the past week.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided details of the military’s focused efforts to combat insurgents and address security challenges across the country.

According to Buba, the operations included ambushes, raids, fighting patrols, and targeted offensives against terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of key leaders and foot soldiers, as well as the degradation of their fighting capabilities. The troops recovered a substantial cache of weapons, including 87 assorted firearms and 666 rounds of ammunition. The seized arsenal comprised AK-47 rifles, FN rifles, pump-action guns, locally fabricated guns, dane guns, pistols, and more.

Additionally, the military apprehended 17 individuals involved in oil theft and successfully rescued 39 kidnapped hostages in the South-South region. The troops thwarted crude oil theft estimated at N159.6 million, destroyed illegal refining sites, and recovered stolen oil and related equipment.

The operations also led to the destruction of terrorist hideouts, including 20 dugout pits, 29 boats, 31 storage tanks, tricycles, and vehicles. The military emphasized its commitment to defeating terrorists on the battlefield and in their hiding places to ensure the prosperity of the nation.

The public was urged to act responsibly and cooperate with the military to contribute to the overall progress and victory in the ongoing security operations.
