

The 2023 Presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi has, on Monday, May 13, 2024, paid visits to some top Nigerians in their Abuja residences, in line with his expressed commitment to the pursuit of peace and progress of the nation.
A statement by Dr Yunusa Tanko, his Spokesman, said that among those visited by the former Governor of Anambra State are former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and former Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
Tanko said that Mr. Obi paid the visits in line with his “abiding devotion is to the emergence of a Nigeria that works for all its peoples and where the people are quickly pulled out of poverty.”
He said that Obi is “worried about the state of the nation and the increasing uncertainty in the living conditions of the poor and underprivileged….
“At the center of discussion during each of these visits was the state of the nation and how to reduce the suffering of all Nigerians irrespective of class and location.
“In particular, the desperate condition of the downtrodden in our midst was highlighted.
“Of particular interest and emphasis in these discussions was the worrisome situation in the Northern parts of the country,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Mr. Obi had, late last week, met in London United Kingdom (UK), with the UK Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) and Shadow Minister for Democracy, Florence Eshalomi.
He said in his X (former Twitter) handle that he had very productive and fruitful discussions with Eshalomi, “bordering on fortifying democracy.
“The meeting underscored the importance of international dialogue in strengthening democratic principles. -PO,” he stressed.
Reacting to the meeting, MP Eshalomi said on her X handle that “It was a real pleasure to meet you, Mr. Obi. The British Nigerian Diaspora continues to grow in the UK and we remain active & follow events back home. Your passion and vision for a better Nigeria is one that we can all aspire to see in our lifetime.”
