Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move comes just after the Federal High Court in Abuja reinstated him as Edo’s Deputy Governor on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
Shaibu made the announcement on Saturday, July 20, 2024, in Benin, Edo State, alongside members of the Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group of the PDP. He expressed his intention to contribute positively to the APC, saying, “On behalf of the Legacy Group, I announce our movement to the APC. We have come to add value to the party.”
“We are not afraid. We are ready to move forward. It is time to take back our state. We will not talk too much because action will speak for us,” he added. Shaibu also expressed support for APC’s governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa.
Shaibu arrived at the venue around 2:08 p.m. and received a warm welcome, including kneeling before former Edo Governor Adams Oshiomhole, which was met with applause from the party supporters.
In a post on his X handle, Shaibu described his return to the APC as a “triumphant homecoming.” He stated, “It is a triumphant homecoming for me, as I officially return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party where I am accepted, valued, and welcomed with open arms.”
“The party holds a special place in my heart, and where I have shared countless memories. I am grateful to be back among the people and community that have always supported me, and to reunite with my political family,” he concluded.
