An eight-man delegation to be led by Senator Francis Alimikhena (APC}, Edo North), has been tasked with the responsibility of conveying the condolences of the senate to the family of former governor of Bayelsa state, late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha’s family.
Chief Alamieyeseigha died last week of heart related complications, in a Port Harcourt hospital.
At the plenary, Tuesday, senators took turns to pay glowing tributes to the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The upper legislative chamber also observed a minute silence in his honour.
The Senate’s decision to visit the family of the former governor follows a motion, sponsored by Senator Forster Ogola (PDP}, Bayelsa West), entitled: Demise of Governor DSP Alamieyeseigha, and co-sponsored by 17 other senators.
Noting that the late Ijaw leader was the first democratically elected governor of Bayelsa State, having been elected in May 1999 and re-elected in 2003, the Senate said it appreciated that the late Alamieyeseigha, before becoming governor, served the nation as a member of the Nigerian Air Force, where he retired as a Squadron Leader.
