Flying Eagles crowned 2024 WAFU B U-20 Champions with 2-1 victory over Ghana

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have won the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship, defeating rivals Ghana 2-1 in an exciting final.

Led by head coach Aliyu Zubairu, the Flying Eagles controlled the first half, going into the break with a 2-0 lead, thanks to two goals from Remo Stars’ rising star Kparobo Arierhi. The young forward’s brilliance put Nigeria in a strong position to defend the title they won in the previous edition.

Ghana fought back early in the second half, pulling one goal back to make it 2-1. However, Nigeria’s defence stayed solid, preventing Ghana from equalizing and ensuring the Flying Eagles held on to the victory and the championship crown.

Both Nigeria and Ghana have also secured qualification for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), representing the WAFU B region at the continental tournament.

This triumph further cements the Flying Eagles’ status as one of Africa’s top youth football teams, setting a strong tone ahead of the U-20 AFCON.
