Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has denied reports that he plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The denial came after rumours on Friday morning claimed that the former Defence Minister had submitted a letter of intent to the APC and was already in talks with the party’s National Chairman.
In a statement signed by him and released through his media team, Kwankwaso dismissed the reports as false online claims.
“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country,” the statement read.
“We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party. The public is therefore advised to stay informed through our official channels,” he added.
The reports have stirred fresh speculation in political circles, with the 2027 general elections drawing nearer. Earlier, some sources within the APC claimed Kwankwaso had secretly sent a letter to the party’s secretariat, sparking reactions on social media and within the party.
For now, Kwankwaso insists no move has been made. But with 2027 approaching, many believe both sides may still have their communication lines open.
