The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where gunmen killed the Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducted 25 female students.
In a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party described the incident as another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country under the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
The PDP said the attack shows that insecurity has become a daily reality for many Nigerians, accusing the government of spending more time on politics than on protecting citizens. The party stated that when a government fails in its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property, it must take responsibility rather than “act aloof or deflect from the core issues.”
The opposition party extended condolences to the parents of the abducted schoolgirls, the family of the slain Vice Principal, and the entire staff and students of the school. It also sympathised with the Kebbi State Government over the tragedy.
The statement noted that the Kebbi abduction is only one among several troubling incidents in recent weeks, citing similar kidnappings in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano and Katsina. According to the PDP, this string of attacks is far from the “renewed hope” promised by the current administration.
The party urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently prioritise the safety of Nigerians and take concrete steps to end what it called a “tragic cycle” of killings and abductions.
“Let the killings stop!” the statement concluded.
