Nigeria will meet Mozambique for the sixth time at senior level in one of the Round of 16 games of the ongoing 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The match will take place at the 35,000-capacity Complexe Sportif de Fès, which has hosted Nigeria throughout their Group C campaign. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm on Monday, January 5, 2026.
The Super Eagles dominated their group, winning all three matches, scoring eight goals and conceding four. Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika have scored twice each, while Semi Ajayi, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Paul Onuachu have added the other goals.
Mozambique began the tournament with a defeat to holders Ivory Coast but bounced back to beat Gabon before losing 2-1 to Cameroon on Wednesday. The young Mambas have shown they can challenge top teams and are expected to give Nigeria a tough match.
Of the five previous meetings between the two sides, Nigeria has won four. Their only AFCON encounter was in January 2010 in Lubango, Angola, when the Eagles won 3-0. Other matches include a 1-0 friendly win in Maputo in 1999, a 3-2 friendly win in Portugal in 2023, and two World Cup qualifiers in 2009, ending 0-0 in Maputo and 1-0 in Abuja, with Obinna Nsofor scoring the decisive goal.
