Davido misses out as Tyla wins Best African Music Performance at 2026 Grammys

Nigerian singer Davido missed out on the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, as South African star Tyla emerged the winner of the category.

Tyla claimed the prize with her popular song “Push 2 Start”, beating off stiff competition from some of Africa’s biggest music names. Nigerian artists Burna Boy was nominated for “Love”, Ayra Starr and Wizkid were shortlisted for “Gimme Dat”, while Davido was nominated for “With You” featuring Omah Lay. Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin were also in contention with “Hope & Love”.

The Best African Music Performance category was created to promote and celebrate African music on the global stage. Once again, Nigerian musicians made a strong impression, with three artists included among the final nominees.

Although Davido did not take home the award, the heavy Nigerian representation in the category underlined the country’s continued influence and impact in African and global music.
