Fake nation-builders By Abraham E. Nwankwo

FAKE NATION-BUILDERS

On dead statistics they stand,

To say the economy is stable.

They boast that inflation is down,

And blow their trumpet loud;

But their data hide the social costs.

They obscure the plight of many,

Who are hopelessly out of job.

And prices are down as they claim,

Because many have no money to buy.

So what manner of stability is that?

On warped logic they rely,

To declare that society is free.

They claim all are free to speak.

And that all have access to knowledge;

But indeed they work for backwardness.

They dump critics in hellish prisons,

And threaten independent media with closure.

They close down schools and varsities,

And dehumanize the academia with poor pay.

Causing the youth to roam the streets.

Pretending to be building a modern nation,

Swearing they are different from their feudal progenitors,

They vow they stand for democracy;

Pledging to correct old injustices.

But their hidden agenda is very long.

They work for their narrow ethnic interest,

Sharpening knives of atavistic hostility.

They entrench themselves as life presidents,

And force freedom crusaders to flee to exile,

As the land is held in brutish bondage.
