US forces begin military training for Nigerian troops in Bauchi

United States of America (US) forces have commenced military training for Nigerian troops in unmanned aircraft systems, combat casualty care and other specialised skills at an operating location in Bauchi State.

The training is part of broader security cooperation between the United States and Nigeria aimed at strengthening military capability, operational readiness and long-term partner capacity.

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) disclosed the development in a report on Monday.

According to the report, the training covers Combat Lifesaver and Tactical Combat Casualty Care instruction, weapons familiarisation, camouflage, water treatment and testing, explosive ordnance disposal, small-unit tactics and unmanned aircraft systems.

“U.S. and Nigerian forces are conducting a series of training events at Operating Location Bauchi, Nigeria, aimed at sharing military expertise, strengthening partner capacity and building relationships between service members from both nations,” the report said.

It added that the training opportunities were developed based on the expertise available among US forces and areas identified by their Nigerian counterparts as beneficial.

The report said the activities were designed to facilitate the sharing of military expertise while strengthening cooperation and relationships between personnel from both countries.

The training in Bauchi forms part of ongoing efforts by the United States and Nigeria to enhance military capabilities and readiness through security cooperation.
