Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi has described the late Publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr. Dotun Oladipo, as “a courageous and committed professional” who contributed to the strengthening of the nation’s democracy.
Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, in a condolence message on his X platform, titled “Farewell to a Courageous Journalist: Dotun Oladipo,” said that the former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), “dedicated his life to journalism, public enlightenment, and the defence of truth and democratic values.”
Stating that he received the news of Mr. Oladipo’s demise “with profound sadness,” Mr. Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, stressed that through his journalism and leadership, Oladipo “made a lasting contribution to the growth of Nigeria’s online media and the strengthening of our democracy.”
He extended “deepest condolences” to Oladipo’s family, colleagues, friends, and the entire media community, and prayed that God should grant the grieving the strength to bear the irreparable loss, and grant Oladipo eternal rest.
