Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has recounted how she was excluded from some social gatherings because she had not become a mother at a point in her life when she was considered baren.
Bimpe disclosed this in an emotional message shared on Instagram, where she appealed for greater consideration towards women facing challenges with conception.
The actress recalled that there was a period when invitations to baby showers, naming ceremonies, children’s birthday parties and other events involving children stopped coming to her.
She said she later discovered that some people had intentionally excluded her because she did not have children.
Bimpe said the experience made her question whether she had done something wrong to deserve such treatment.
“There was a time when I wasn’t invited to baby showers, naming ceremonies, children’s birthdays, or anything related to kids. Sometimes, these were people I knew personally,” she wrote.
She explained that her concern was not about seeking sympathy, but about wanting to maintain relationships and share in the happiness of people around her.
According to the actress, she has always loved children and wanted to celebrate important moments with her friends and acquaintances.
She said women struggling to conceive already face emotional difficulties, including waiting, questions, insults and private prayers, adding that social exclusion could make the experience more difficult.
Bimpe urged people not to exclude women without children from social gatherings, stressing that their circumstances should not determine whether they are treated with love and acceptance.
“A woman without a child is not less deserving of love, friendship, inclusion, or celebration. Invite her. Love her. Celebrate with her,” she said.
The actress also noted that people may be dealing with private struggles that are not immediately visible to others.
She encouraged friends and family members to continue including women without children in celebrations rather than assuming they would be uncomfortable around children.
Bimpe’s message was also accompanied by a reminder that her circumstances have changed, with a post referring to her now becoming a mother of three boys after previously not having a child.
